This was endearing for a few seasons but became perplexing as their years together began to morph into a lifetime without any actual commitment.

The relationship suddenly becomes the core of the show, whether it’s written that way or not. Benson doesn’t want the one-night stand to turn into anything else, but Cassidy grows attached to her, and the tension is palpable.
